About Me

“I wear cool glasses, solve global problems, fight for equity in tech, and use my keyboard for good.”

Hi! I’m Janeen Uzzell; wearer of cool glasses, global problem solver, and advocate on the frontline fighting for equity in tech. I use my keyboard for good. I’m a Tech CatalystGlobal Citizen, and Storyteller

As a Tech Catalyst for equity and tech justice, I am having an amazing transformative career experience. I have a professional education in mechanical engineering and business leadership. Through my tech skill set, business acumen, influential voice, and results-driven leadership style, I impact lives and communities worldwide.

I currently serve as the first-ever CEO of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the most prominent Black STEM community impacting society and industry in the United States. Prior to NSBE, I was the COO for Wikipedia and helped launch the Wikimedia Knowledge Fund to address racial inequities in free knowledge.  I was also a global executive at GE for nearly two decades, where I spent time working as an expat in Africa.

My community leadership endeavors include serving as a Board Member for Mercy Ships and the dFree Foundation. Some close friends and I launched the H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Everywhere) Mission as a non-profit dedicated to using our resources to help others. And most recently, I’ve been appointed by President Biden to serve the White House on his Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

I have been honored with numerous awards and recognitions for my leadership accomplishments, including receiving the United Nations Global Leadership Award, being recognized by ADWEEK as one of the Top Black Women Trailblazers in Tech, and one of the 25 Most Influential Black Women in Business by The Network Journal.

As a Global Citizen, I fell in love with the world, and it has loved me back and changed my life. In addition to the United States, I lived for many years as an expat in Africa. I travel the world, leading teams and developing programs that solve problems in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

As a Storyteller, I am frequently called upon to speak on global stages, join panel discussions and podcasts, and to coach start-up entrepreneurs and business professionals.

I come in peace, but I mean business.

By the way, here is my complete bio.
